It does not matter if you have not exercised for some time, if you have some health-related issues or you are an elite athlete, this superb form of exercise can benefit you immensely.
Tai Chi and Qigong can work at a very deep tendon level to improve the range of movement within your joints, which can help you to become stronger and more flexible, whatever your age or size. Because the exercises are done slowly, they work at a very deep level, helping to relax and tone the body. Tai Chi and Qigong works excellently on the waist separating it from the pelvis. This over time can improve severe lower back problems and can repair internally all the body systems.
Tai Chi and Qigong can be done by anyone of any age, as long as you feel physically able.
You will be given a health questionnaire on enrolment which requests health related details such as hypertension, asthma, diabetes etc. This will help us to structure our teaching accordingly.
We are taught to always work to our own level of physical fitness and stick to the 70% rule of not over doing it. This helps us to train within our limitations of what we can do. If we over do it this will create tension in our body, which Tai Chi strongly discourages.
It is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing with suitable footwear such as trainers. It is traditional to wear black or black and white to fit in with the Yin and Yang philosophy of the art, but is not essential. Working clothes are fine for Tai Chi and Qigong at your workplace, but please wear sensible shoes. This also helps energetically and keeps our egos out of the class. Modestly is the order of the day!
